the label boss returns to his own yore imprint with another stunning solo release. these are different times indeed for andy vaz if the eps three mighty jams are indicative of where his musics heading. the a-sides over here (a glance over prime time mix) roars from the very first moment vaz unleashes its steaming, latin-tinged groove. a far cry from the techno the yore label head once issued, the tune finds vaz exploring straight up dancefloor territory with a dizzying house pulse that straight up rocks. melodies and voices rise to the surface of the dionysian broil and then just as quickly recede, leaving room for a driving bass line to gain the spotlight. the flips hurry hurry (before its too late mix) is classic deep house just as one expects on yore. a jazz-inflected strut with tilman ehrhorns sax playing, wailing over waves of rollicking piano playing and spirited vocal chants. the energy level doesnt flag for the discs final track, bygone times (nostalgia mix), which stokes a fiery house swing with its locomotive pulse, futuristic synth patterning, and high-velocity bass lines. vazs music has never sounded more impassioned and energized than it does in these three tracks and consequently, just as one might predict, different times feels like its over far too soon

a fresh addition to the moodmusic roster but a longtime veteran in the house-scene, alexander maier aka dj all*star from stuttgart is well known from his earlier releases on buzzin fly, exun and criminal records. he began his career playing underground techno in south of germany but over the years became more and more influenced by detroit and chicago house. you can hear these influences on sahara in both the rain and river version. deep and reduced grooves with enough soul and atmosphere, yet fully functional for the floor, sahara rain kicks in with a heavy bass sequence building a perfect platform to be followed by the synththeme which hit s the peak hour perfectly. i see some hands going up here already… sahara river starts more housey, building a classy, low-slung huge groove with perculating synths and almost tribal feel to the drums. the modulating synths lifts the track to new heights with a break of superbly layered twisted pads before the drums kick back in in full effect. as this would not be enough we asked our thrusted chicago connection and alexs buddy, mazi aka audio soul project to remix sahara rain. if you consider people who s been in the biz for some time mazi is one of the warriors of the sound, never choosing the easy way but thrustfully following his true way of house music. and house it is, classic but cleverly updated to 2008 with a twist of so-cal thrown in for good measure. bouncey and jacking is the words which comes into mind when hearing this, excellent work and a another bomb for the hot months to come

once again, tuningspork records ventures away from its trademark funky house in exchange for something a little more unexpected. last summer, the label issued >free your mind< (tsextra), a baleraric groove crafted by jay haze and ricardo villalobos. now comes another non-sequitur: >comptine d un autre été: l après-midi< (tsultra), mr. tiersens piano composition reconstructed for the dancefloor by jay. french composer yann tiersen has a minimalist approach that many electronic producers could learn from. his piece (the title of which roughly means >nursery rhyme of another summer: the afternoon<) provides the basis for this melancholy track. djs addicted to hyperbolic effects plugins might hesitate to play this - but those who appreciate subtlety will be rewarded here. tiersens original composition is tastefully manipulated into a track that makes sense in a club context, yet sets itself apart from the usual techno/house fare, providing a rare introspective moment on the dancefloor. and it might be worth mentioning: if you play this track and the floor doesnt fill up with ladies, then it probably means youre djing at a gay club. is there more to life than house music? for the swedish dj/producer mikael nordgren: probably not. since 2004, he has been steadily churning out some of the best future house tunes from his studio located in stockholm. his productions have been released under many aliases including dmalicious, 12th floor and for get physical under the mighty moniker of tiger stripes. the blacker the music, the sweater the sound. a potential anecdote that fittingly could have inspired mikael when he composed the warm and supple portion of detroit fueled funk that is, blackroom entertainment. yet another presentation of his programming prowess and ability to mold and mend melodies into a sophisticated groove. especially utilizing his signature catchy drums to get the vibe going, then introducing a melodic synth stab before the track takes you away with complex variations of rhythmic lead sounds. abacus may remind listeners of his stellar mad at me ep released last fall on get physical - albeit reformed with a more analog approach. springing tones get the groove rolling before it is taken over by a cabal of sci-fi sounds, at which point a thick, modulated analog bass sound ups the overall energy. the lack of audio imagery is little if none, as the sounds invoke so many moods, feelings and sensations that only a seasoned dj and knowledgeable producer could fabricate such a convincing theme. blackroom entertainment ep again showcases mikaels ability as a formidable contributor to house music

the vinyl opens with athina a track that has the special ,made by axel karakasis, mark all over itself. athina busts a powerful uptempo groove and a really nice melody making the track perfect for those summer outdoor festivals!! the track has already gained massive support by carl cox. the second track is, how do i know, by sun40. the track builds up towards an energetic vibe, including some great rhythmic percussions, a driving melody and a bassline that just scream for you to get out on the dancefloor. on the other side you will fine vaporise a track by vortechtral a vivid uptempo track, with twitchy hi hats, energetic drums and filtered vocals. last but not least is flashback a track by dj mary that catch the attention with its energetic beats and a simple but cool bass melody. all sounds collide, creating a magical explosion of colours, sounds, intensity, extacy and emotions. a very very impressive record. an absolute must have for this summer!
